We live extremely busy lives, as there is so much to do and so less time. Reclaiming some of our time should be of help.
I remember a talk by Vanessa Van Edwards on Impact theory. There is nice trick that she has come across and adopted to enable her find gratitude during the times that seem to only invoke impatience.
Do you remember the last time you were stopped by a traffic light? How did it make you feel? Was it triggering your impatience with every passing second?
And what if its the same traffic light every time you go to work and come back home? how do you convert this foe to a friend?
We can trick our minds and use this time to remind ourselves of all the things we are grateful for.
It will act like a trigger reminder, forming a habit.
Whenever we encounter a traffic light, it would help to think of all the things we are grateful for, like our friends and family, for our good health, for access to good food and shelter, for the job, and anything else that we admire in our lives.
You may have heard how important gratitude practice is, but some of us probably don’t have the time, or we tend to forget about it.
Having traffic lights as the gratitude reminder is a win-win situation.
This practice can be applied to any and all situations which seems to seep our energy away, we can use the trick in elevators, while waiting in line, while waiting for friends to arrive, on a bus, any place where the time seems to go by slowly.
And not only gratitude, we can practice forgiveness, positive thinking, or remind ourselves of our goals and the action plan for it.
Shifting our mind to the positive has huge mental benefits, it has a calming effect on our minds, helping us ease a little bit more, and it enables us to regain control of the narrative of our lives.
Takeaways
Don’t let the time just slip away. You have the power to reclaim the lost time with Gratitude.

Cool post! So there is a bit of a way to not regret the lost time. I thought it might be kind of hopeless. A great post for this year and also for anyone dealing with “impatience” as you write. Appreciating the positives can actually go a long way, because as bad as things get there always not as bad as we think.

Hey, thanks man. π
Yeah, I recently came across this idea, and thought to share it. You are right that things are not always as bad as they seem, its just where we shine the light at. I appreciate your thoughts on this one.

Your post resonates with my thoughts, as always. We are always enslaved by our habits. Why can’t we make good use of the very same phenomenon to trick our minds to think of only positive things. Very beautiful thought!
You write really well, Ujjawal. Thanks for sharing.

You got the gist exactly right, we are more often than not enslaved by our thoughts. Having habits like these can help us shift our world view. I appreciate your views on the post and on my writing. I hope you have a great week ahead. π

Uzzawal… Another practical article! What I love about your blog is that you always provide something little we can do ‘right now’. Things that are achievable that can help make our lives better. All these little changes eventually add up to big change π A traffic light is a great reminder to practice gratitude and something many of us encounter daily. Great work, keep it up friend πππ
